La embarcación, registrada en Florida, Estados Unidos, con número de matrícula FL7726SH, se aproximó hasta una milla náutica al noreste del canal El Pino, en Cayo Falcones, municipio de Corralillo, provincia de Villa Clara. Cuando una unidad de superficie de las Tropas Guardafronteras del Ministerio del Interior, con cinco militares a bordo, se acercó a la embarcación para su identificación, la tripulación de la lancha infractora abrió fuego contra el personal cubano, resultando herido el comandante de la embarcación cubana. Como consecuencia del enfrentamiento, hasta el momento de este informe, cuatro agresores a bordo de la embarcación extranjera murieron y seis resultaron heridos. Los heridos fueron evacuados y recibieron asistencia médica. Frente a los desafíos actuales, Cuba reafirma su determinación de proteger sus aguas territoriales, basada en el principio de que la defensa nacional es un pilar fundamental del Estado cubano para salvaguardar su soberanía y garantizar la estabilidad en la región. Continúan las investigaciones de las autoridades competentes para esclarecer plenamente los hechos.
